Anastasios Stathis is a Staff Physician at the Clinical Research Unit, Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland, Ospedale San Giovanni, Bellinzona, Switzerland. Prior to his current position, he was the Attending Physician at the Medical Oncology–Inpatient Department in the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland in Bellinzona. Dr Stathis earned a medical degree from the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy, in 2003, before completing a specialty degree in oncology at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy, in 2007. During his postgraduate training, Dr Stathis was a Fellow in medical oncology at the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland, and a Fellow in the Drug Development Programme, at Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, in Toronto, Canada.
Dr Stathis has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator for several clinical trials focusing on haematological malignancies and drug development (mainly phase I studies). To date, he has received several awards for his work including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award and the Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigator Award (NOYCIA) in 2009. Dr Stathis is a member of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) since 2007, ASCO since 2008, and the New Drugs Working Group of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK) since 2011.
Dr Stathis has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including Annals of Oncology, the British Journal of Cancer, the British Journal of Haematology, Leukemia and Lymphoma, and Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology, and has co-authored several book chapters.
