Valentín García-Gutiérrez, MD

Dr García-Gutiérrez completed his medical degree in 2003, and since then has specialized in hematology and hemotherapy at the University Hospital in Madrid. He obtained his PhD in 2008, on ‘Prognostic factors in chronic myeloid leukemia patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors’
He won the Excellence Award for Hematology-Hemotherapy Residents whilst at Madrid in 2009, and has published 15 international and Spanish articles as well as lecturing and presenting extensively at hematology meetings. In 2011, he won the Spanish GETH Award for best presentation at an EBMT congress for his co-authored research article: ‘Sequential gene expression analysis of the early alloreactive phenomena after BMT identifies gene sets and pathways differentially expressed in blood and skin: implications of the target organ of GVHD.’ [R. Dr García-Gutiérrez has been the coordinator of two national studies, and principal investigator on 14 Clinical Trials (Phases II-IV), in the areas of chronic myeloproliferative disorders and bone marrow transplantation, and co-investigator in 23 clinical trials in pharmacology, oncohematology, bone marrow transplantation, anti-infectives and supportive care.
