Radiotherapy for indolent lymphomas: how much is enough?

Lena Specht

The Lancet Oncology, Early Online Publication, 24 February 2014

Summary

The extreme radiosensitivity of indolent lymphomas, particularly follicular lymphomas, is well known. Nevertheless, fairly high doses (30—40 Gy) have been used in many centres, especially in the curative setting for early-stage disease. In 2011, results from an important randomised study1 from the UK showed that 24 Gy was sufficient for local control.

1 This dose is now included in international guidelines, 2 leading to substantial reductions in early and late toxic effects.
